Stop Creditor Harassment

There are a number of ways in which credit card debt can become overwhelming. A manageable balance can become unmanageable if you or your spouse loses a job. A late payment can result in a bump in interest rate up to as high as 38 percent. The interest payment alone can be difficult to manage. A creditor turns your debt over to a collection agency, which may call as often as 20 or 30 times per day. Credit card companies can garnish your wages.

My name is Roger Glenn, co-founder of Glenn & Glenn, L.L.P., and I have been practicing law since 1980. During that time I have helped a great many individuals and small businesses find relief from overwhelming credit card debt — one option of which is bankruptcy.

Credit Card Debt Options

If you are behind on your credit cards, it is likely that most of your payment each month is interest and late fees. There are three main options to eliminate your credit card debt.

  • Chapter 7 bankruptcy — If you pass the means test, a Chapter 7 bankruptcy will eliminate your credit card debt completely.
  • Chapter 13 bankruptcy — If you do not pass the means test, a Chapter 13 bankruptcy will allow you to pay your creditors for three to five years and at the end of that time, any remaining credit card debt is forgiven.
  • Negotiation — Often, a credit card company will lower an interest rate or create a payment plan for you. I can negotiate on your behalf to pursue this option.
